The game is set in 2072, in New Atlanta a Hacker hacks into the Trioptimum corporate network, he is soon discovered and captured, and gets taken to Citadel Station near Saturn where Edward Diego offers a Neural Cybernetic Interface in Exchange for removing SHODAN's ethical constraints. The hacker agrees and removes the constraints and is put into a healing coma for 6 months after it is installed. While the Hacker is asleep, SHODAN works to take over the station, converting many of the Station's inhabitants into Cyborgs or Mutants, and turning the Robots to her side.
