"Tainted Grail: Kings of Ruin is our new stand-alone game, built upon 3.5 years of experience with developing Tainted Grail adventures. As always, it will take you neck-deep into an amazing story designed and written by Krzysztof Piskorski (Tainted Grail, ISS Vanguard) while offering the most polished gameplay so far in the Tainted Grail saga.
In the lands of the west, three kings preside over the ruins of their realms. The Crimson Cradle stirs in the mists. The envoys of Tuathan infiltrate struggling human settlements. The brotherhood of Kingseekers dreams of finding the One True King and forces innocents to join their ranks. In the midst of this, you set your foot on a long-lost trail without even suspecting what strange and dangerous places lay ahead."
"Which Rules Changed?
a) Kings of Ruin Encounters - This unique NPC expands on our Guardian / Fore-dweller
mechanic from Fall of Avalon. The game will offer you all necessary information when you
first meet him.
b) Two-sided Locations and waystones - Menhirs were replaced with waystones that have
different rules. Locations no longer “fall of the table” where they are covered with Wyrdness.
Instead, they have a dedicated “Wyrdness” side.
c) Exploration Action change - Exploration now costs 0E to start. Any further costs are listed
next to specific choices within the Exploration.
d) Modified Rest procedure - Eating Food has a different effect, and the main use of food is to
provide health and terror recovery when resting.
e) New Guardian rules - Entering an area with a Guardian will no longer automatically trigger
an Encounter. Their movement pattern has changed, and there is a new “Challenge a
Guardian” standard game action.
f) Only named Combat and Diplomacy cards - Each Character now has their own unique
named starting deck and advanced cards. You no longer mix colored “archetype” cards with
named cards.
g) Personal Character skills - Each Character has their own pool of available,
thematically-appropriate Skills, instead of a shared pool.
h) New Diplomacy rules - The Diplomacy system received a major overhaul and works
differently from previous Tainted Grail campaigns.
i) Modified Item rules - Items now come in several decks, and there
are some simplifications regarding equipping / unequipping items.
j) A second deck of larger Secret cards - This deck contains special Custom Encounters as well
as many other fun secrets we do not wish to spoil.
k) Obscured text in the Exploration Journal - Instead of using dial combinations to hide Secrets,
the Journal now contains special “color reveal” sections that players learn to use during the
campaign.
l) Modified Health limiter - The Health limiter piece now only limits Energy. Panic rules were
merged with insanity rules."
