TAKING THE HIDDEN SCROLL | Senran Kagura Burst ReNewal Gameplay Walkthrough Part 7 | No Commentary
Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal is a remake of the original Senran Kagura: Burst for Nintendo 3DS, published by Marvelous Entertainment for the PlayStation 4 and for Steam.
Since it's a remake of the original Burst, the story remains largely the same, containing the two story arcs, Skirting Shadows (the Hanzo Academy arc), and Crimson Girls (the Hebijo Academy arc). Downloadable content adds two additional mini-arcs, Ice Queen (starring Yumi) and Abyssal (starring Miyabi).
The graphics and gameplay are fully 3D. The hack and slash system from Estival Versus is used, and each playable character uses their move-set from Estival Versus. The Dressing Room, Diorama Mode, and Intimacy Mode from Estival Versus is available as well. Costume Destruction is also present.
The Burst Gauge is a new mechanic that builds as the player defeat enemies, block attacks, and perform parries. Once it fills up, Burst Mode can be activated to increase the player's damage and to allow for infinite Aerial Raves. After it's activated, the Burst Gauge will deplete over time. When it empties, Burst Mode will end and any nearby enemies will be pulled towards the player shinobi and get damaged in an explosive final attack. The same button used to activate Burst Mode can be pressed early to trigger the explosion early at the cost of ending Burst Mode early. If the player activates Burst Mode while in Frantic, the finishing explosion will occur immediately. If an opponent shinobi is defeated during Burst Mode or from the finishing explosion, the player shinobi finishes their opponent with a unique attack animation and fully strips her.
Top-Secret Files are new and can be collected throughout missions across the game. These collectibles have new lore not present in the original Burst.
Yin (Frantic) and Yang (Shinobi Transformation) modes can be leveled up by defeating enemies in each mode. There are 5 levels to each and a new benefit for that mode is unlocked at each level.
Additionally, Secret Growth Medicine has been added and can be used on characters to give them EXP immediately and level them up faster. It can be a collected during missions and be purchased from a Ninja Room's store.
Whereas the original Burst was a 2.5D side-scroller action game, Re:Newal is a full 3D action game with updated graphics and gameplay features from Estival Versus. However, unlike the Versus series you cannot go Frantic during a mission. You can only go Frantic when starting a mission, just like the original release. Completing a mission in Frantic mode adds a star to your ranking at the end.
The original lingerie and swimsuits are replaced with those from Estival Versus.
There are no aerial Ninja Arts due to using Estival Versus' gameplay features.
Costume Destruction scenes are the same ones used in Estival Versus.
Downloadable Content adds 13 additional characters from the Versus series, along with two mini-arcs starring Yumi and Miyabi respectively.
Much of the battle dialogue that happened during the shinobi duel sections in the original was omitted.
The only original in-mission dialogue that persisted was between Asuka and Homura during their final duels in both campaigns.
The Free Missions are new and entirely different from the original's extra missions.
Any playable character can be used to complete a mission once it's been completed once.
The Burst Gauge is new.
Opponent shinobi no longer start out in their transformed outfit. Instead, they start out in their pre-transformation outfit and perform a Shinobi Transformation to restore their health like in the other hack and slash games.
Opponent shinobis' introduction lines are also different.
Losing to an opponent shinobi no longer results in them finishing the player off with a Ninja Art animation.
There is no longer a clothing durability gauge that acts as armor. This means the player no longer takes more damage as they lose since clothing durability with each successful enemy attack.
The Flash system unlocked from maxing out both Yin and Yang mode is no longer available.
The Ninja Room is now a traditional menu that shifts to different sections of a scene unique to each campaign. Each menu option focuses on a different character present in the scene and changes as the player progresses through a campaign. Each character has a unique cyclic animation in the Ninja Room scene but cannot be talked to like in the original Burst.
"Rinne" replaces the original opening themes.
