33Eh, just a few translator notes for this section...I'm tired since I've been trying to do that bloody infinite combo all afternoon with little success. Bleh. Anyway...
There's one line that Mao has that took me forever to think of an English equivalent for. It's the one where he goes, "Mao's powered up!...by a whole lot!!." The last part is ~NOMAKI!!, and MAKI is the counter for a series of books (e.g. volume 1 of the encyclopedia...you know, way back in the day when they used to print those things), sound (volume), and scrolls...for those of you who are scratching your heads, the Japanese language has specific counters for certain items. For example, cylindrical items such as pens get the counter ~HON/BON/PON (the sound changes depending on the number that precedes the counter), so 1 pen would be IPPON, 2 pens would be NIHON, 3 pens would be SANBON, etc. There's a whole buttload of different counters and as you may guess, it's difficult to translate them normally.
Well, I went with that translation since the MAKI counter implies that there is a series of items afterwards or some sort of spectrum. So, I was thinking that his power went up so much that you could fill another volume or go up to the next notch with it. Get it...maybe? MAKI is also the slang term for ditching someone, which kind of fits it to the idea that you're on a different level. Anyway, I bring this up only because you're probably going to hear Mao say a similar ~NOMAKI phrase after I put his Skill/Ougi Exhibition together.
One more thing too. The level of formality in Fenia's speech fluctuates quite a bit depending on who she's talking to and the situation at the time. When she is addressing the group, she is rather formal like all of the other Sacred Beasts. When she is talking to Mao, she is relatively casual and direct as this mimics how mothers talk to their children in Japan. She distances herself a bit (i.e. gets a little more formal) when she's testing Mao with those questions, but culturally, I'm under the impression that that's not terribly unusual. Anyway, I tried my best to indicate these changes in the subs, but I figured that an explanation would be helpful as well.
