Gambler's Soul + Critical Moment because I like to live dangerously. And yeah, playing with Mouse and Keyboard on Semi-Auto is actually a very comfortable experience.

Not sure if Vesperia is badly optimized or Berseria is just a really good port, but my PC is unable to play vesp and keep crashing on load (same with God Eater 3), so i can only play vesp on my laptop.

And my laptop's gpu can't use Nvidia Shadowplay for some reason. so i get a shitty recording :(. If Vesperia and God Eater 3 are indicator of what Tales of Arise PC version would be like, then I'm really fucked unless I upgrade my PC.

Anyway, finally done with Vesperia main game. I have to say, my fondness of this game is heavily reliant on nostalgia. Replaying it, I just keep nitpicking on shit and generally not enjoying the game. Having to play it on my underpowered laptop is not helping.

Love the graphic effects and art direction, but the story is pretty tiring to play through. The tropes are kinda archaic by today's standard (I find myself irritated at Rita's tsun shtick more than I remember), and the game can be too preachy at times - which is not actually bad, but the hypocrisy of some party members detracted from the message a lot.

Combat is pretty shit honestly. Controversial claim, I know. But after Xillia/2, everything Team Symphonia-style feels lacking. Manual mode is very jank without something to reorient yourself towards the enemy. And it's really bad because Manual mode is the only way to make early game Vesperia bearable with Manual cancel. Rising Falcon/Phoenix are straight up unusable in Manual because you don't reorient yourself towards the enemy.

Halfway through with a lot of Skills unlocked, the game became a tad bit more bearable, with Super Chains and Ability Pluses. Even then, it's a very limiting game out of Overlimit, but a spamfest during Overlimit - no middle ground. I'm glad Tales is ditching arte-tiering stuff behind.

Also, approach to combat is the same for every single fight. Maybe it's just me being boring, but every single battle in the game for me is a matter of using Shining Fang - Shining Fang Drop - Shining Fang - Shining Dragon Swarm/Brutal Fang to enter OVL with Tension. It doesn't matter if it's a boss or a monster, and it doesn't matter if it's a bear, bird, or mantis monster. Every single fight is the same.

Hence why I love the emphasis of weakness and species type in the newer game. Having different type combination encourages me to think of different ways to tackle each monster, resulting in a fresh experience almost every battle. Or at least every new area. Vesperia's monsters are just punching bags with no clear distinction between one or the other.

Oh well, let's see what Arise would bring to the table next.
