Shadow Gaius... He hits hard, probably the hardest in the game; getting hit with Retribution meant an automatic game over; same with Calamity Stance. Divine Ascension had superarmor during the arte as well, stopping a PC here and there, but other than that, his artes are nothing for me to worry about. With his Damage Reflect skill(~50% damage will return to you), your HP will always end up being 1 after a combo, or even a non-combo. Originally I opted to use skillseal like usual to nullify his skills, but with the short duration and wasting a water PC time extension, it wasn't very efficient.

Instead, I unlinked from Luds and get a counter-knockdown, petrify, or stun off S.Gaius, giving me chance to get PC2 and avoid HP depletion. Once I got PC2, I relinked with Luds and did a combo, trying to make sure to knock him down in the end. There's not much variation on said combo, just to be safe(I did finally learn how to combo after an aerial Darting Claw; still learning after all this time....) and end the fight quickly. Since he breaks out of Linked Explosion, I used Tempest Spiral instead. I hadn't used it in a while, so I forgot about its tendency to pull over Leia's head when the enemy is high in the air, so I messed up a few times =0\.

For healing after a combo, I used a unlink/relink strategy instead of conventional heals. I don't normally endorse that kind of heal, but I simply countered 'cheat tactics' with cheap tactics =01. Luds equipment consisted of a Holy Symbol(3%HP heal ~ 3 secs) and the Sage Knives(20%HP heal ~30 secs) to keep up with the HP drain.

Using the Black Brush(dark-based weapon), he also takes a lot of damage from poison, arouund 42000HP each infliction. Since my INT is high enough to inflict it quickly using certain artes, even on a non-combo or random hit, he can be inflicted, cutting down the overall battle time.
