How to feel safe and how to actually be safe. Safety is the most primal drive of every living thing. Yet our capacity to feel safe can get distorted to such a degree that we don't feel safe, even when we are. Tapping is a powerful remedy for that.
Tapping on the Meridian Points (from acupuncture and acupressure) literally communicates safety to your nervous system in the most powerful way... through touch. Touch bypasses the filtering systems of the conscious mind and delivers this message of "You are safe" directly to the body.
It works like this. Even though I will be saying things that sound quite negative, I am only voicing what your unconscious believes to be true. Just confirming what is believed actually communicates safety since you are not trying to force it to change.
At the same time the body is receiving exactly the opposite message through the tapping. The words say I am not safe but the touch says I am. Touch is more influential than thought and the nervous system has to reconcile this difference. It reconciles it by opening to the possibility that maybe it is not as dangerous as it believed it to be.
Seeing that it isn't, it begins to relax. You feel that as a sense of relief. Do that consistently and your nervous system will begin to assume that things are safe and you will find new balance and freedom in your life.
