[TAS] VVVVVV (Linux) | CCCCCCCCCC Retold v2 - 100% in 8:00.93
It's finally here! This is a TAS of a custom VVVVVV level made by Whirligig231 back in 2011. More specifically, it's a reimagining of a VVVVVV fangame made by xem. Personally, I think the level has a lot of charm and I wanted to make a TAS for Whirligig and see how far I can bring it down. In this TAS, I also collect all of the trinkets in the level, which they requested. This was made using LibTAS.
Some small notes about the run:
- Initially I didn't respawn at the checkpoint in Options and just waited for the platform to cycle back after collecting the trinket. However, I discovered that a respawn here would save two seconds. This somehow had the side-effect of desyncing the run in Pushing Onwards, which I remedied by wasting a single frame the room before. Viridian's walking animation cycles through two sprites, which have different hitboxes, thus, it's only possible to squeeze past the enemies in Pushing Onwards if you have the correct sprite.
- It's possible to save time in the room, Going Down?, but upon doing so, the TAS desyncs to The Treadmill. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way to fix this without just waiting for the next cycle, so I scrapped it in interest of making the first cycle.
- I couldn't find a way to skip the enemies in the bottom half of Pressure Cooker. I tried flip up on the conveyor ceiling and down to restart the enemies, but I still couldn't get through.
- Initially, I just flipped and sent it in I Love Dew Too, but I couldn't catch the small block without falling an extra time. Luckily, I was able to find a setup that allowed me to flip from one block and (barely) reach the other.
- Navigating through Too Many Enemies without having to wait is quite possibly one of my favourite parts of the TAS.
- Masochist's Meal is easily the hardest trinket in the level. It relies on a lot of precision and a good enemy/platform cycle. Thankfully, I can just barely squeeze underneath the last enemy and collect the trinket early.
- (I have no idea if the line clip in Dodge or Burn saves time, but I really wanted to add it in the run anyway. It looks cool, can ya blame me?)
- Flipping before the warp token in Narrow Squeeze allows you to fall sooner in the next room.
- You can enter Pearl's Gravitron while the cutscene is playing! This doesn't save any time and just kills you. Fun!
- The final time for the TAS was originally 8:04, but I managed to shave off those 4 seconds after revisiting the TAS the day after I finished it. Some notable timesaves were in Options, Why I Hate Sony, and finding a shortcut in The Long Way.
Sorry about the video quality by the way. I still couldn't figure out LibTAS's encode settings. Nevertheless, this is a project that I made with love. And with that, I hope you enjoy. ♥
