In the latest of our features on Task Force Jaguar, the Joint Aviation Group, we focus on the detachment of Lynx aircraft operating out of Camp Bastion.

The aircraft now has state of the art surveillance to help provide cover for troops on the ground; but it still faces a number of challenges in the desert climate.

One of the biggest problems it faces comes from the Afghanistan pastime of kite-flying. The long, trailing strings are a genuine hazard for the aircraft.

The Lynx is also used for Battle Damage Assessments, checking civilian areas or infrastructure.

Its 50 calibre gun regularly assists troops under fire, and the helicopter occasionally acts as guard dog over an incident clear-up.
