Tattletail - Winning at Hide and Seek and Running From Mama - December 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd
Beating the first four nights of Tattletail, a 90s nostalgia horror game based on the popular talking toy, the Furby. If you are a fan of 90s nostalgia, toy-base horror movies like Chuckie and horror games, then this is the game for you. Other than the Furby-like Tattletail, you will come across many awesome 90s features and easter eggs, such as VHS tapes and CRT screens. Interestingly, the sense of innocence and nostalgia of this game, as well as the way each night is presented is very reminiscent of Five Nights at Freddy's.
*** First 4 Nights Covered ***
December 20th (Night 1)
This is basically a tutorial stage in which you find Tattletail in the basement, unwrap it, then learn a few of the survival and stealth mechanics in the game. When you carry Tattletail around with you, you need to make sure that it remains well fed at the fridge to increase its FEED gauge, and it must also be well groomed with thee brush on the living room couch to increase its GROOM gauge. Failing to do so will cause it to make a lot of noise and perhaps attract a lot of attention from Mama.
We are also prompted not to answer a phone, but I answer the phone anyway. Answering the phone makes a whole bunch of garbled static noises play, but I do not know if these noises affect the story in any way.
December 21st (Night 2)
We have to investigate a clunking noise, which is just Tattletail tumbling around in a dryer. We are introduced to the flashlight and learn that low light causes the toy to panic and make a lot of noise. We are also given a very brief introduction to Mama, an audio cassette tape player and the antagonist of the game.
December 22nd (Night 3)
We find Mama and see her up close. We put a cassette tape in her that tells us that Mama will come out to chase you while you sneak around at night. We get a brief encounter with Mama when we clean the Tattletail’s mess in the living room to learn how to beat her. We learn that she will only move towards us if we break eye contact or make noises, so it is important to be quick to look back every now and then when running from Mama.
December 23rd (Night 4)
We find out that we have more than one Tattletail and we have to play Hide and Seek with the yellow one tonight. It would be a whole lot easier if Tattletail didn’t have survival and stealth mechanics, though, as Mama comes looking for your right away. If she finds you, you get a jumpscare and start the level ALL OVER AGAIN (totally not raging). After you find the Yellow Tattletail when it has been hiding for 1 minute and 30 seconds, the Hide and Seek minigame will end. We will then find a VHS that shows us some very disturbing footage of what seems to be a Tattletail ad and a man struggling on their back in the basement. What could this mean?
