It’s a software story, not a hardware story
To expect it to parallel offerings from contemporaries is missing the point, entirely
Experience is more than simply a slab of glass
They won’t add new hardware for the sake of it w/o software story
This is an Android device, not a spec-checkbox device
So
ftware missteps
Pixel 3, new memory management
Pixel 4, new biometric app disconnects (5 apps at launch?!)
Face unlock quagmire - didn’t stay ahead of it
Hardware narrative
Wait until 3+ months after launch (patches)
An ‘a’ option should have been launched in-tow
Battery optimization should’ve been more heavily considered
Casual Reminders
Experience isn’t necessarily empirical, one-size-fits-all
What you need / want isn’t everybody
What looks good to you isn’t good for all
Nobody sucks because they choose something you don’t
Android ecosystem isn’t going to suffer from lack of Pixel pickup
