Tekken Tag Tournament HD - Arcade Mode
62Playing Arcade mode on PS3. Your standard fight to the finish, arcade mode is formatted the same as Tekken Tag Tournament for the arcade. In arcade mode, you select a pair of characters and progress through eight different battles against various enemies. The eighth battle is against the boss (named "Unknown") and is only one round long no matter what the setting is in the options menu. Unknown constantly regains health up to the red part of her life bar, so a good way to beat her is by using tag juggles (see System).
Once you complete arcade mode you will then be treated to a short ending for the first character you picked in your pair. All endings are in real time (rendered in the game engine) except for Unknown’s ending. Arcade mode is also the only mode that allows you to unlock characters. As the game was made to be a collection of previous games, the game include nearly every character from the original Tekken up to Tekken 3, including those who were canonically missing in the current canonical game Tekken 3. The Tekken 3 returnees include Anna Williams, Bryan Fury, Eddy Gordo, Forest Law, Gun Jack, Heihachi Mishima, Hwoarang, Jin Kazama, Julia Chang, King II, Kuma II, Lei Wulong, Ling Xiaoyu, Mokujin, Nina Williams, Ogre, Panda, Paul Phoenix, Tiger Jackson, True Ogre, and Yoshimitsu. Characters from before Tekken 2 who make a comeback include Alex, Angel, Armor King, Baek Doo San, Bruce Irvin, Devil Kazuya, Ganryu, Jack-2, Jun Kazama, Kazuya Mishima, Kunimitsu, Lee Chaolan, Michelle Chang, P. Jack, Roger, and, Wang Jinrei. All of them have improved appearance and movesets to make them on par with the Tekken 3 characters.
Additionally, the game adds two new characters, both of them being mimic characters: Tetsujin, a metallic version of Mokujin, and Unknown, a mysterious woman who is controlled by the "Forest Demon" and also serves as the final boss of this game. Both characters seldom appear in future games, with Unknown resuming her role as final boss in the sequel Tekken Tag Tournament 2, while Tetsujin is featured as a boss in the free-to-play Tekken Revolution.
The only absent characters in the game that were playable in previous entries of the series are the original Jack, the first King, the first Kuma, Marshall Law, Dr. Bosconovitch and Gon. Dr. Bosconovitch, however, makes a cameo appearance in the Tekken Bowl mode as a spectator.
