Basically, this is all wrong. The Remote Thermal Monitor requires power to operate whereas the normal one, placed on a reactor, doesn't. I'll move the remote one downstairs and connect it to an alarm. Water evaporates at 50% heat, so putting a source block 4 blocks above the reactor will keep it cooled (thanks to Arrath from Something Awful for that, whose post I found via Google).
