In its place, he finds a broken, shadowy gate that almost goads him to enter.
Stepping inside, he enters a vast temple of puzzles and enemies, which acts as a shrine to the very opposite of the Great Fairy's ethereal wisdom.
When he finally reaches the boss's lair, he's met with the grotesquely transformed figure of the Great Fairy of Wisdom herself, corrupted and in the service of the Evil King…
