Terraformers: First Steps on Mars - Achieving 5 Terraforming Steps
0Playthrough looking into the potential effectiveness of extracting oceans from round 2 for terraforming. Although I was able to achieve 5 terraforming steps within 30 rounds, alot of this was due to some good luck near the end.
Conclusion:
Using ocean extraction from round 2 is quite risky. Although you are guaranteed at least 2 terraform levels (10 rounds for Lv 1 oceans and 15 rounds for Lv 2 oceans for 25 rounds total), you are resource starved from losing a source of water income for food production/support income/city expansion and 16 power which inhibits exploration. The initial resource hit does hurt your ability to explore and collect resources early game which will hurt your development mid to late game.
