The Ice rod is a magic style weapon that can be obtained from the wizard for 1 platinum.
To get the wizard to move into your home, you will first need to defeat the wall of flesh in the underworld. The wizard can be found anywhere randomly underground as you're exploring.
The primary use of this item is to create temporary ice platforms that allow you to maneuver in hard situations, which makes it much easier to explore. This item can also be used as a weapon, although the damage is low and shoudn't be used over other weapons.
Overall, I reccomend spending 1 platinum coin on the ice rod, as it is a huge aid when it comes to manoeuvring.
