Durability in video games: If you use too much item too many times, the item breaks. It makes you learn that using the same item over and over isn't a pretty good idea. It also rewards you for getting the duplicate items, since they'll worth more when your initial one breaks! Terraria has no such system, but Minecraft has one... so why shouldn't Terraria?
