I had shown this tape before as a "tracking gone wrong" sort of tape, and I'm convinced that this tape has had a hard life before I got my hands on it.
However, the linear track on this tape is just dreadful. It also doesn't help that it's encoded to be used with Dolby B noise reduction, something that not many VCRs could properly decode. It genuinely sounds like you went into Audacity and used the vocal removal filter.
