This is a new world record.

When I first started the grind for high scores in Journey, my best bet was about 2.3 million. The now former #1 record held by Uyeshota, which is about 2.46 million, felt like a completely different beast of a score. And now I stand having that record completely crushed, and having reached 2.5 million for all Journey difficulties.

While this run still contains many mistakes, a few of them critical, it is by far the run in which I did almost everthing I wanted to do, with focusing more on T-spin singles than doubles for normal play being the most crucial part of what makes this score possible. This also means that, unlike normal or expert, setting new records in beginner will likely be not much about making fewer mistakes, but about optimizing further. The absolute bonkers score of 3 million for individual area sum implies that with brutal optimization the score could be pushed further, but actually pulling it off in a single run for well over an hour would be not only monumental, but also a bit boring to grind.

For now, I am content with this score, and the grind for Journey as a whole is pretty much done for me. I will still play this mode occasionally from time to time, but a serious push for a higher score will not happen in the forseeable future. If I do get a PB then it would probably be during a chill session where I am got very lucky.
