Tetris es un videojuego de puzzle originalmente diseñado y programado por Alekséi Pázhitnov en la Unión Soviética. Fue lanzado el 6 de junio de 1984,​ mientras trabajaba para el Centro de Computación Dorodnitsyn de la Academia de Ciencias de la Unión Soviética en Moscú, RSFS de Rusia.​ Su nombre deriva del prefijo numérico griego tetra- (todas las piezas del juego) conocidas como Tetrominós que contienen cuatro segmentos y del tenis, el deporte favorito de Pázhitnov.

Tetris estuvo en Atari, Nintendo, Game Boy y en casi todas las consolas de los 90 y se considera un juego de generación Arcade. Ha llegado a más de 50 plataformas en 200 países y también llegó a los dispositivos móviles, en los que ha sido descargado más de 500 millones de veces.

En 2014, Tetris fue nombrado como uno de los videojuegos más vendidos de todos los tiempos por el Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition.

En 2015, el juego ruso fue nominado y elegido como uno de los miembros inaugurales de dicha promoción en el Salón Mundial de la Fama de los Videojuegos, ingresando al selecto grupo al lado de Doom, Pong y Super Mario Bros, entre otros.

Tetris is a puzzle video game originally designed and programmed by Alekséi Pázhitnov in the Soviet Union. It was released on June 6, 1984, while working for the Dorodnitsyn Computing Center of the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union in Moscow, RSFS of Russia. Its name derives from the Greek numerical prefix tetra- (all game pieces ) known as Tetrominos that contain four segments and tennis, Pázhitnov's favorite sport.
