2The amount that these games all overlap with each other is enough to make your head spin especially considering a lot of articles online claim that Cratermaze was sort of a blatant unlicensed rip-off of Booby Kids/Kid no Hore Hore Daisakusen and that Nichibutsu just couldn't be bothered to get angry about it. I think somehow it is hard to believe that some agreement wasn't in place but I haven't researched too deeply into the history here.
This is one of the games I picked up from Kevin Gifford's old podcast selecting the best of Chiptunes, while trying to find some TG-16 soundtracks that I should feature here. I never had this game as a kid although I did have a TG-16 and loved it for Bonk and later the Ys series and more.
Featured below is TG-16 Cratermaze which was released as a Doraemon game in Japan for the PC-Engine (with changed up music), followed by the Arcade version of Kid no Hore Hore which you can see the similarity goes down to a music level as well. A Japanese wiki site describes the latter music as "The characteristic BGM, called "Nichibutsu Sound," plays in a small, lively rhythm. The BGM of each period also matches the stage very well." There are apparently some references made to their other classic Heiankyo Alien as well.
