The 24-Hour Reset: Your Secret Weapon for Wins and Losses
Top o' the Mornin' to Ya!
I found a new setting on my phone - it's called cinematic mode. See how crisp I look with that blurred background? If you're doing videos or any talking head content, definitely use cinematic mode for that professional depth of focus.
But that's not what I'm here to talk about today. We're continuing our discussion about how we respond to successes and victories, and how we handle our misses.
What?
I want to share a different approach I learned from Jonny Nastor a few years ago. He hosts the podcast "Hack the Entrepreneur," and Jonny teaches something called the "24-hour reset" for both wins and losses.
Here's how it works: You get exactly 24 hours to fully experience whatever happened. If you had a victory, you get 24 hours to celebrate properly - do that celebration we talked about earlier this week. If you had a miss, you get 24 hours to learn, dig in, evaluate, and process it completely.
After those 24 hours? You shake it off and move forward. No more dwelling on the miss, no more extended celebration that kills your momentum.
Why?
This framework prevents two common traps: over-celebrating victories until you lose all momentum, and turning temporary setbacks into permanent failures by ruminating too long.
The 24-hour reset gives you permission to fully experience both emotions - the joy of success and the disappointment of missing the mark - without letting either derail your progress. It's a structured way to honor what happened while keeping yourself moving toward your goals.
Lesson
Johnny's 24-hour reset isn't meant to interfere with planned celebrations. If you've earned a vacation or planned a bigger celebration for a major victory, that's different - you planned for that. The 24-hour reset is specifically for unplanned responses.
It's for that moment when you think, "Oh, I made the sale! I'm not going to make any more sales calls today" and lose momentum. Or when a setback sends you into a spiral that lasts weeks instead of being processed and learned from quickly.
This becomes your automatic response mechanism - your default strategy for handling unexpected wins and losses.
Apply
Think about a time when you should have used the 24-hour reset. Maybe you celebrated a victory so long that you lost momentum on your next goal. Or perhaps you let a miss turn into a failure by dwelling on it for weeks instead of learning and moving forward.
Visualize how applying the 24-hour reset could have changed that situation. See yourself giving appropriate time to process the event, then consciously choosing to move forward with renewed focus.
Having this framework in your back pocket gives you a healthy, structured way to handle whatever life throws at you - keeping you moving toward your bigger vision without getting stuck in the emotional extremes.
When was a time you should have used the 24-hour reset? Share in the comments below so we can all learn from each other's experiences.
You be blessed!
