E.V.O.: Search for Eden was originally released in Japan as 46 Okunen Monogatari: Harukanaru Eden e and naturally lacked the mistranslations of so many different animal names. (Also, why did the translators name it "E.V.O."? What does that acronym stand for?) In 2020, one NLeseul could take it no more and re-translated the game with the proper species names and (mostly) correct grammar, although it does little to reduce how bizarre and goofy the adventure becomes.

I acknowledge I probably spent too much time grinding in this video, even though The 4.6 Billion Year Saga is a grindy one indeed. I tried to show as many of the evolutions as I can, including the mermaid, dragon, gargoyle, and human, even when there was no practical need. Despite this, I expect a skilled player could show everything I do in the video in less time.

The 4.6 Billion Year Saga introduces novel evolution mechanics that seemingly have the player control a consciousness reincarnated over hundreds of generations. What initially appears to be a fantasy framing of more-or-less realistic evolution quickly goes off the deep end, however, with magic crystals, space aliens, mermaids, bird people, dragons, and other strange creatures and abilities. While the game could have been potentially educational, clearly the people at Almanic did not intend it to be so. While grindy, with a simple soundtrack, the resultant game is engaging and fun in its abundant humor and weird ideas.

One of the most interesting details of this strange video game is that it is actually a sequel to, or perhaps *evolution* of, a PC-98-exclusive RPG. The predecessor has also received a fan translation under the name E.V.O.: The Theory of Evolution, if you care to seek it out.

Save states were used in this video. I should have edited them all out. If I missed any, please let me know! I want high-quality footage without that kind of error.
