In an uncharacteristic move by "From Software", the developers of many mecha games and more serious titles like Armored Core, Murakumo, Metal Wolf Chaos, Frame Gride, the King's Field Series and Spinoffs of sorts (Shadow Tower, Eternal Ring, etc.), Otogi 1 & 2, Evergrace & Forever Kingdom (and etc., etc., etc.), comes one of the few light-hearted games they would ever make, The Adventures of Cookie & Cream. You wanna know something else? It's not bad at all-- it's actually one of the more original games on the system in general. It would also get a modified version released on the Nintendo DS.

In one of the early displays of the PS2's capabilities, the game boasts fun for the whole family and puzzling gameplay that you've never seen before. In all my years of gaming, I'd have to say that they're probably right. TAoC&C is a true co-op game that requires skill and teamwork and while there are plenty of games where you can help a friend out, no other game does it quite like this. What makes this more tragic is that the game is relatively little-known. You can even have two people play with one controller (for budget purposes and even if you're playing alone, you can control them both to an extent). This game almost requires two people though.

In TAoC&C, you play as Cookie & Cream respectively, who are trying to find out why the Moon ran away so they can bring it back and continue with their Moon Festival, a Rabbit Clan tradition. They have been transported to a strange island by two Ancient Roosters who are "Moon Guardians", where they believe they may find the answer if they are brave and perservere.

In this game, characters are almost always divided by each half of the screen due to a mysterious power on the island, so they rarely come in physical contact with each other. In order to get around, they have to cooperate by solving unique puzzles presented to each character based on their slight stat differences and location. Some are simple, some require alternating, some are a little more complex, and some require true cooperation from both and/or any participants. Boss fights are particularly interesting in this regard as some might require one to lure the boss while the other presses buttons and others might have one drive while the other aims. It's actually brillant.

The graphics are pretty standard of early PS2 games, and the music has that very distinct "From Software" vibe where everything sounds ambient, hardcore, and/or almost spiritual. The game is comprised of eight main worlds with dozens of stages inbetween. If you have never heard of this game before and have some people to play with (up to four players with a multi-tap), this is definitely one you want to track down. This would be a good one to play with a lady friend.

This is broken into two videos to cover the first world. You can find various items and the highest rank is S, though you likely won't get S rank on your first visit if you're grabbing other items. Enjoy.
