The Beach Boys SURF'S UP
Hello I’m Chris Bottger and welcome back to another album review. Today I am going to be reviewing The Beach Boys’ 1971 album, Surf’s Up.
This album was an attempt to rebrand The Beach Boys as a more thoughtful band and to try to get people to take them more seriously than they had been.
The Beach Boys had for the past half decade been putting out a mixture of silly songs and thoughtful ones and this one is really no different at its core. As such, this rebrand was really just a new coat of paint for the band, but they are still the same old Beach Boys.
This album does focus more heavily on social themes than usual, especially when compared to its predecessor Sunflower, but Surf’s Up still has plenty of silly moments, nonsensical lyrics, and easy listening vibes.
