Yesterday is a song about the breakup of a relationship, the singer remembering when they were together before he said something that made her leave him. Yesterday one of the best-known songs of all time! It was the first essentially solo performance of The Beatles, featuring Paul MacCartney singing and playing the guitar with a string quartet backing.
Fun fact! Yesterday has been covered with an astounding 2,200 cover versions! This makes it one of the most covered songs in the entire history of recorded music. Allegedly, the melody came to Paul McCartney in a dream and he spent months asking people if they had heard it before. The song was in the making for many months, but the right title couldn't be found. It was finished in May 1965.
