3Happy New Year! With the release of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X (what were you smoking when you came up with that name, Phil) in 2020, we are once again entering that weird cross-generational period of awkward launch titles, cross-gen games and late-gen releases that will either stay on old systems or be quickly remastered to serve as a filler for the early next-gen libraries. With this in mind, I've decided to highlight one of the craziest examples of transitional periods in gaming - 1994, the year where 8-bit, 16-bit and then-brand-new 32-bit systems were all fighting for the market share. This is not supposed to be the essential list of 1994 VGM, but rather a fun lookback at just how messy the industry was at the time.
