Were VR games better in 2016-19 when consumer VR was still in its infancy, when experimentation & fun was rife we had games like Robo Recall, Wilson's Heart, Stormland, Edge of Nowhere, Defector, Apex Contruct and so on... Some of the BEST VR GAMES even today in 2022 I'll find myself impressed with just how fresh and exciting some of these old VR games still feel when compared to the new VR games releasing these days. A lot of people love to say VR is dead every few months but I think it's less a question of is VR dead and more were VR games better back in the beginning of the medium? To the point where things feel like they've taken too many backwards steps now? I wanted to share my thoughts on the matter today whilst blasting through some Robo Recall smooth locomotion VR gameplay (the smooth movement mod for Robo Recall is absolutely essential and modernises one of the best VR games of that era), VR games are still great and they constantly fill me with wonder but they do feel like they lost a little bit of this early magic somewhere along the way...

This Robo Recall VR gameplay was captured on PC using a Quest 2, there is a native Quest 2 version of Robo Recall but I believe the mods are only available for PCVR. This video is an example of some 4090 VR gameplay / 4090 VR performance whilst playing on the highest graphical settings.
