the BFG 2704 (Beta BFG)
20In the alpha versions of DOOM, the BFG was originally going to fire large fucking waves of plasma balls! According to the DOOM Bible, the BFG 2704 was a beta weapon & has the ability to ricochet on the floors & ceilings. though, it's was mostly design to clear out hallways & other close area's. However, it's probably the most unstable BFG compared to it's other variants. If not used properly, it could often get yourself killed. (this never happens in the game since the bfg damage doesn't hurt you unless you play Deathmatch).
So think of the Plasma Rifle mixed with a Shotgun & added more fire power. The BFG2704 was also known to have a lot of recoil more so than the BFG 9000. If not hold properly it could cause you to get knocked back & probably get you or your crew killed. (maybe both)
Now in comparison between the 2704 & the 9000. the 9000 does a more damage when you hit them dead on especially when up close. But in term's of Fire Rate & Destruction, the 2704 wipes out everything much quicker than the 9000.
During the development of DOOM. they changed the BFG to 1 giant Green Ball than multiple plasma balls probably due to how limited Computer's were at the time & could crash your system. The BFG2704 is SOOOO POWERFUL! It could crash your PC!!! *lol*
