I have absolutely zero idea why this curse exists, but it is real and it is consistent and I sure am ready to try out both Apollyons again when the switch version gets here. I am the maddest of lads to want to beat this whole package numerous times.
Tainted Apollyon isn't about gaining stats and merging active items, he is about gaining more damage per second thanks to the attack flies that are generated through using Abyss on items. See an item you don't need? Turn it into a familiar and have more damage to throw at your foes. There are even specific attack flies that can be generated by using Abyss on specific items like Ipecac and Holy Light.
