The Blasted Ceres Series! Part 33: Boiling My Brain (ONI: Spaced Out!)
2This VOD is the 33rd part of my Blasted Ceres playthrough on the new Frosty Planet Pack DLC for Oxygen Not Included, where the main planet is split into two halves with Space in the middle! In this episode, we clear out the space to the left of the Volcano and start setting up a Petroleum boiler. The principle is running the colder Crude Oil up the heat exchanger in a conductive pipe, such that the Crude Oil is preheated by the outflowing Petroleum. The Volcano then adds the final small amount of heat needed to convert the Crude Oil into Petroleum at 403° C. The Petroleum then cools against the Oil as it descends down the tiles until it is cool enough for pumping with a Steel Liquid Pump and for Plastic production. I've decided to set up the Petroleum running along the left side and saving the middle space for our Rust melter which I'll start building next time. Having such a long heat spike is not ideal but so far it seems to be getting the job done... we need to swap the normal and radiant pipes but I'm confident we can start increasing the flow immediately after that. My brain is sleep deprived so apologies for that. We also discuss some builds on Discord at the end. Cycles 728-744 are in this video.
This DLC adds a new starting asteroid type to both Classic and Spaced Out styles with a range of new very cold biomes with new plants, critters, and materials to explore and exploit. We are fairly close to wrapping up this run as the new update will bring a Ceres Moonlet cluster that I want to investigate as well as some major changes to power management that I want to investigate. We will get the Spigot Seals and Rust Melting sorted and then prepare to investigate further.
