Here's a quick rundown of how this Hardcore 3 Lives custom run works:

Basically, the number of lives I have is also the number of items I get to keep when I die. So, I start with 3 lives. If I die, my life count drops to 2, and I can only choose 2 items from my previous inventory to bring with me into the next life. Everything else gets dropped where I died, so I can always try to go back for my gear if I'm feeling brave. The whole challenge ends for good if I die with only one life left.
