The Conjuring is a 2013 American supernatural horror film directed by James Wan. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga star as Ed and Lorraine Warren, paranormal investigators and authors associated with prominent cases of haunting.
In 1970, paranormal investigators and demonologists Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) and Ed (Patrick Wilson) Warren are summoned to the home of Carolyn (Lili Taylor) and Roger (Ron Livingston) Perron. The Perrons and their five daughters have recently moved into a secluded farmhouse, where a supernatural presence has made itself known. Though the manifestations are relatively benign at first, events soon escalate in horrifying fashion, especially after the Warrens discover the house's macabre history.
We were thrilled when we saw how this film was executing it's scares. From the sound design and mixing to the inventive way of bringing scares to the forefront "The Conjuring" not only delivers on the horror film experience, it's a feast for the eyes with sequences like the one take house tour. A true masterclass in how to build tension the right way without making jump scares feel cheap. Also...that Annabel doll...just...no.
