Final part of System Shock 2 for the PC! This game is kind of a sloppy mess. In fact, I'm just going to copy-paste the Steam review I wrote immediately after doing this live stream:

"This was a frustrating game to try out, overall, although I can see hints at what could be a very good game behind all the flaws and inherent jank. I can get why this game would have a following back in the day, but now? This game doesn't deserve the cult status it has (unlike games like Morrowind, Quake, Half-Life, or Deus Ex, which I also have problems with)

The game just gets in its own way with its flaws. It controls well enough, sounds and looks great, especially for its time, but I felt the first game was more impressive and the gameplay elements suited the game style more. For example, the first game had fewer RPG elements, but the character having to balance ammo vs power really did work out great. In this game? The Psy powers are insanely gimped. 80% of them aren't even good and Psy refills are insanely rare. The few powers that you would use are underpowered and expensive, take a lot of upgrade points to get access to, and are a waste of an upgrade once you inevitably run out of the insanely limited Psy power. Why even offer Psy as a gameplay option at that point?

Then for guns, the first huge portion of the game will have you with access to only standard weapons, so why even offer anything else until later? This game is riddled with beginner's traps. Guns are absolutely useless without the maintenance and repair skill investment anyway, as they'll break within nanoseconds. Hacking is so mandatory it isn't even funny.

My point being that in a game that is set up around RPG elements and character building, it should be more balanced and incentivize the player to play how they want. Instead, the game has a *VERY* particular idea of how you *HAVE* to play the game, punishing you for not being clairvoyant when you first start a game file. Psy is an absolute waste, you HAVE to have Hacking, Standard Weapons is a must but you need Repair and Maintenance first, Research is highly encouraged, and there aren't enough upgrade points, especially early on, to make any mistakes otherwise.

This game needed some serious rebalancing, and this game has way too high of a review score for these flaws to be so obvious when playing. Take your nostalgia goggles off and look at this game for what it is.

MAYBE with heavy, heavy modding, you can make a solid 9 outta 10 game with this one, but as it stands it's just a 7, maybe. Having this game with anywhere near a 90% Steam review score is an absolute joke."
