Crows expose themselves to ants through a behavior called anting, which helps with parasite control and skin irritation.

They do this in two ways:

1. Passive anting – sitting on anthills and letting ants crawl over them.


2. Active anting – picking up ants and rubbing them on their feathers.



Ants release formic acid, which can kill parasites and soothe the skin—especially useful during molting.


تقوم الغربان بتعريض نفسها للنمل في سلوك يُعرف بـ "التنميل"، وذلك للمساعدة في التخلص من الطفيليات وتخفيف تهيّج الجلد.

وهذا يحدث بطريقتين:

1. التنميل السلبي: تجلس الغراب على كومة نمل وتدع النمل يزحف على جسدها.

2. التنميل النشط: تلتقط النمل بمنقارها وتفركه على ريشها وجلده.


يُفرز النمل حمض الفورميك، والذي يساعد في قتل الطفيليات وتسكين الحكة، خصوصاً أثناء تبديل الريش (الطرح).
