The Crew 2 Finally Goes Offline! But is Worth it? Thoughts and Opinions
This week, following the presentation of the Year 3 updates for The Crew Motorfest, one of the most unexpected announcements came not from the new title, but from The Crew 2. After a year of waiting, the long-promised offline mode has finally arrived. Nearly three years after I stopped covering The Crew 2 following its final live service update, I decided to return and experience this new addition for myself.
After the controversy surrounding the shutdown of the original The Crew—which, fortunately, was revived this year by dedicated fans—it seems The Crew 2 won’t share the same fate. Ubisoft has finally delivered a way for players to preserve their progress and continue enjoying the game even after its online services eventually end.
Transferring your save data is fairly simple: just pause the game, navigate through the “cloud” menu, and initiate the process. Once done, you can access all your collected cars and vanities in the offline mode. Around 90% of the game is fully functional offline, though some features such as custom liveries and leaderboard times aren’t available. Any downloaded or self-created liveries will disappear, and with the decal editor removed, players will have to settle for stock designs or simple color changes.
While it’s great to see The Crew 2 preserved for future generations, there isn’t much “new” content here. For long-time players, the experience might feel empty without the online events—especially the Summit competitions that defined the game’s replayability. However, for new or returning players, this offline mode offers a valuable way to explore and enjoy a large portion of the game’s world without worrying about losing access in the future.
