Isn’t it fascinating how Morgoth, the dark enemy, gave rise to the incredible dragons of Middle-earth? It all began with Glaurung, the Uruloki, often hailed as the "father of dragons." He emerged from Angband a bit too early, finding safety with Morgoth for a while. But when the time came for the Battle of Sudden Flame, Glaurung was ready to make a grand entrance, leading the charge and clearing the way for the fierce Balrogs!

In the intense battle known as the Unnumbered Tears, Glaurung showcased his might, embodying both strength and terror. However, he faced a valiant opponent in Azaghal, who bravely injured the dragon, stopping him from overwhelming the Noldor warriors. Glaurung had some remarkable powers, too! He even managed to control Turin for a spell with his captivating, lidless eyes.

After the fall of Norgothrond, Glaurung gathered the fabulous treasure of Felagund, lounging atop it in a grand hall, but not without causing trouble for Mablung's elves and casting a spell upon Nienor. In a dramatic twist, it was Turin, also known as Turambar, who ultimately brought Glaurung down, sneaking up on him to strike a decisive blow while he slept.

Following Glaurung's defeat, his brood continued to impact battles throughout the First Age, even playing a role in the tragic fall of Gondolin. As the age drew to a close, Morgoth unleashed a new kind of dragon—flying ones! The mightiest among them was Ancalagon the Black, who was heroically slain by Earendil.

Fast forward to the Third Age, and we find the Dwarves up against cold-drakes in Ered Mithrin, north of Mirkwood, which led to some dramatic turns, including the untimely death of Dain I. The Rohirrim, known then as the Men of Eotheod, also encountered a dragon named Scatha in Ered Mithrin, igniting a feud with the Dwarves. The brave Fram, whose father Frumgar had led their people to the Anduin's headwaters, heroically defeated Scatha and claimed the dragon’s treasure. Unfortunately, this led to a conflict with the Dwarves, who sought the treasure and, in tragic tales, some say Fram met his end because of this.

And who could forget the mighty Smaug in TA 2770? This fearsome winged dragon seized Erebor, leading to yet another chapter in the saga of Durin's Folk. Middle-earth’s history with dragons is rich and filled with adventure, showcasing bravery, conflict, and the timeless struggle between light and darkness!
