The DayZ Server Forcing Users to Download Malware
10The Northmen's has been accused today on the r/dayz subreddit of forcing its' users to download Echo. This user goes on to say that they reported it to Bohemia and Discord both, with the user being advised by Bohemia to go on and report it to authorities for cybercrime. As it stands, this post has 100 upvotes and 100 comments, cementing the OP's goal of raising awareness to this problem. While having played the northmen's servers a couple times, they weren't anything huge, but my friend and I did get banned for a couple days or permanently (can't remember) for having some fun in chat. It was nothing huge, but as I have to moderate this channel, I do have an idea of lines. Anyway, despite the image in both the thumbnail and the post looking indeed genuine, it could very well be unsubstantiated and fake. For any Northmen's moderators, admins, or staff coming across this, there is no copyright shown to be claimed. This is just simply an echo (get it?) of the original post on another platform to potentially raise awareness in case of bad actors. This isn't the first time I've heard of DayZ Community servers having a so-called "ban list" they can put players on. For those not in the know, these so-called lists are like a giant blacklist. If one community server bans you on this thing, you are banned from the rest (or all of the big ones, at least, like The Lab). The Northmen's hasn't had a great reputation on Reddit and other websites for a while now. Cheating and being banned for cheating whilst not cheating (...?), abuse of power, etc.
If you can help it, I wouldn't play on this server. Just because it's an unrelated incident does not mean it can't happen to you. Accidents happen every day. People get hacked, extorted, or worse. Don't assume just because a server is high up on the list that it couldn't be in bad faith.
With that said, even if this is a hoax, or if it is truly real, I wanted to let others know.
