Rayman is a 2D mascot platformer, developed by Ubisoft. You play as titular Rayman in his debut game, jumping, propeller hovering, and punching your way through increasingly difficult levels. It's basically the Dark Souls of the PS1 launch titles innit.
REVIEW: I always wanted this game growing up. I did not know it was so brutal! I've always been drawn to Rayman's simple design, it doesn't surprise me that it turned into a franchise.
What is there to say? The game is a 2D platformer, it's controls are relatively tight and responsive once you get used to them. Once you get the ledge grab and propeller hover, the platforming feels more comfortable; and you need all the comfort you can get! This game very early on throws a bunch of BS at you. Like: baiting you into an area just to spawn a bunch of enemies around you; show you a power up that, as soon as you get close enough to grab it, an enemy comes out of nowhere to get you; enemies that shoot OTHER ENEMIES; autoscrolling levels that change speeds between snail and what was that, filled to the brim with spikes, enemies and hazards; and much more!
My initial score for this game is relatively high (im a pretty tough rater, so 6 is pretty good tbh. 6 means I like it). But I will try to remember to come back and adjust it if it needs to be-- probably for the inevitable rage quit :)
