This story was written by friend of the museum, Mr. Manly Wade Wellman, who also wrote O! Ugly Bird (https://youtu.be/s6l4fERTDbo) and The Theater Upstairs (https://youtu.be/vyQuCXjOQiI). This story ran in Unknown Worlds magazine, June of 1943, so the war was still going on when he wrote this, which is wild.
This story was also adapted into a segment of Mr. Rod Serling's classic anthology TV series Night Gallery.
