The E-4B is a converted Boeing 747 fitted with a suite of sophisticated communications equipment.

In the event of an attack or disaster, including a nuclear attack, it allows the US President and Secretary of Defense to set up a war room and communicate from the safety of the air.

It visited the Royal International Air Tattoo for the first time in its 60-year history.
