(Sorry for the interruptions today, I was redoing the security at my house.)
Today we learned how to play one of the greatest board games of all time: Dune. Originally released in 1979, it still feels like a very novel game, with the exception being the huge number of house rules and tweaks that have sort of accumulated over 40 years of play. The official rules actually come in two versions ("basic" and "advanced") that use different sets of optional rules, and neither are, IMO, the most fun version. But then again, one of the defining features of DUNE is that everyone has their own set of favorite rules.
Besides teaching how to play, I also highlight the things that make it awesome. Or, rather, some of the things that make it awesome, as there are a lot. Game Design is an important part of this class, and learning to think about games analytically is one of the important skills I want you to take away from here.
