In this chapter, Miriel is directed by Queen Mynisera to the Orcish stronghold of Orsinium, where King Gortwog is holding on to the letter of the Emperor that, after a lengthy search, Miriel is able to retrieve. The letter in question refers to some mysterious Totem which, later on, is revealed in an anonymous letter to be a magical controller for a gargantuan creature called the Numidium. Miriel also finds herself set up not once, but twice by the devious Princess Elysana of Wayrest - first, when she agrees to carry a deadly robe for one of the Princess' enemies, and second, after the Princess sends Miriel on an escort mission that turns out to be a death trap. Fortunately, Miriel is by now strong enough to resist all the enemies, and returns to Daggerfall in order to resume her monster-slaying missions for the Mages' Guild.
