People on Twitter recently have discovered that Criterion games has changed their name to "Criterion Games, A Battlefield Studio". Paired with the end of speedhunters, many have speculated that Need for Speed as a series has come to an end. At least Criterion's work on a new Need for Speed. It's been confirmed that Need for Speed has been shelved while Battlefield 6 is in development, but the question still remains, will Need for Speed Return once Battlefield 6 is finished? And will Criterion go back to working on Need for Speed full time like they did with NFS Unbound back in 2021?
Unfortunately only time will tell, but I believe that we are in the same situation we were while Unbound was in development. We will hopefully see a new Need for Speed game once Battlefield 6 finishes development.
