There have been many different renditions of Spider-man. He hasn't always been CEO of his own tech company, he hasn't always been married to a supermodel. There was a time when there was one, and only one Spider-man, and that was Peter Parker, and he was nothing out-of-the-ordinary. Designed by and based upon Steve Ditko, both Stan Lee and Steve Ditko wanted to create a character that readers could relate to. Someone who had all the potential in life but none of the success, a wallflower who would be thrown into extraordinary circumstances because of an incident that could have happened to anybody.

Mild mannered Peter Parker just wanted to live happily and was given the power to fight adversity and help innocent people, but instead he chose to mind his own business and paid the ultimate price. Feeling responsible for the death of his beloved Uncle Ben, Peter chose to do the right thing and use his power to make the world a better place.

Ditko's story has inspired millions of people across the globe to find their inner hero and look after one another at every opportunity, and has driven us through some of the hardest times, and taught us to hold on, and be steady even when things get rough.
