A survival horror video game called The Evil Within was created by Tango Gameworks and released by Bethesda Softworks. Shinji Mikami, the creator of the Resident Evil video game franchise, oversaw the game's global release in October 2014 for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
Sebastian Castellanos, the game's main character, is pulled through a warped universe filled with nightmare locales and terrifying animals. With guns and melee weapons, players combat disfigured nightmare-like foes, including bosses, as they advance through the stages dodging traps, using stealth, and collecting collectibles.
The Evil Within received a generally positive reception upon release; praise was mostly directed at the game's horror elements, gameplay and atmosphere, while criticism was directed at the game's story, characters and technical issues. A sequel, The Evil Within 2, was released on October 13, 2017.
