The Evil Within (2014) is a current (7th) gen Japanese Survival Horror title by way of Tango Gameworks (founded by Resident Evil series creator Shinji Mikami), published by Bethesda, and not Capcom who has traditionally published the Resident Evil series.
Overall it is a good example of the genre with more of an eastern-themed influence when sat beside titles such as western-hemispheres Until Dawn (2015) by Supermassive Games.
The biggest upset (no spoilers) was the framerate which is slightly choppy. Everything else from entering a world of an insane asylum inmate to careful stealth and ammo-conservation sets the tone that this is most definitely Not a run-and-gun run-of-the-mill shooter. I found this change of pace rather refreshing to a genre in need of more titles to either fire on at least most cylinders like Resident Evil 7 Biohazard or hardly at all like with pretty much any Telltale series game.
Overall The Evil Within is a decent title I would recommend.
