The early 80's was effectively the beginning of video games- before that is a primitive stone age of simple games, and after is quickly approaching the modern. Pac-Man is in many ways, one of the grandfathers of this still-relatively-new medium- an enduring remnant of video games crawling out of the primordial goo. Pac-Man himself is probably in the top 3 most recognizable video game characters, alongside Mario and Sonic, and since the release of the original arcade game in 1980- has had tons of sequels, is available on… virtually everything, tv shows, shirts, underwear, little guy even made it into Smash Bros.- not bad for a yellow circle based on a pizza. To actually list every version of Pac-Man would be… daunting, plus today we're gonna be hitting a lot of these versions- the good, the bad, and the weird- plus other Pac-Man games in the style of the original, so consider this a look at the many, weird, wild, and fascinating versions of Pac-Man, starting with the Arcade original- which outside of Arcades is available on… oh lord, Xbox 360 arcade, iOS, fucking Roku, as part of the Arcade Series on Xbox One, PS4, and PC, as part of Arcade Archives on Switch and PS4, basically every version of Namcom Museum, which has seen releases on Playstation, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Windows 95, GBA, Xbox, PS2, Gamecube, DS, PS3, Wii, 3DS, Switch- if you have a console, you can play Pac-Man on it, then there's it being an unlockable bonus in the Pac-Man World seires, and this isn't even touching the various conversions I won't be looking at- like the various home computer ports, to the MSX, Zed Ex Speccy, and the like- it's genuine insanity- you can play a version of this game in the Google logo.
