First, you’re forced into a one-on-one duel with Wiegraf, a fight that can feel impossible if you’re unprepared or missing key abilities like Auto Potion. Then, before you can breathe, the game throws you into the Velius battle, where he’s surrounded by deadly demons capable of wiping out your party in a single turn.
To make things worse, many players only kept a single save file… and saving before this fight meant getting softlocked — stuck forever with no way to go back and prepare. It’s one of the most notorious difficulty spikes in RPG history, and still debated as the hardest fight in Final Fantasy Tactics.
