Doom Eternal teaches you the right way to slay demons in its first 21 minutes. Dean Takahashi of GamesBeat plays this beginning for us, showing that just about anybody can learn how to play, given the easy start with a single weapon and the tutorials that pop up with each new weapon or feature. This is one of a number of review-related videos and stories that Dean is doing for Doom Eternal.

In Doom Eternal, there's no camping or hiding or stealth play. You have to run into the open and keep moving. Sometimes you'll see resources lying on the ground. But you mainly collect what you need -- different types of ammo, armor, chainsaw fuel, and health -- by killing demons.

And you have to remember to mix it up. If you do a Glory Kill (melee) attack on a stunned demon, you kill the demon and get health. If you use your flame belch, the enemies you burn will drop armor plates. If you do two Glory Kills, you can fire a massive Blood Punch to take out multiple enemies. And if you find cans of fuel on the ground, you can quickly refill your chainsaw, which otherwise gradually refills itself over time. And if you use the chainsaw, you can get ammo.

If you can remember to always keep changing how you kill the demons, you'll fare well in Doom Eternal. If you run out of one of these resources, you're dead. Here's a link to the accompanying story. https://venturebeat.com/2020/03/17/doom-eternal-the-opening-fight-scenes
